I can’t tell from your question if you want to keep them off the streets or if you want games to play in the streets! I’ll go with the former.

These are a couple of real oldies!
There’s a game called “gossip”. With the kids around a table or in a vague line. The first one (or maybe the adult) whispers a simple sentence to the second player who whispers it to the next one .. and on to the end of the line. The last player then announces what he/she heard. Compare it to the first statement to see how close it comes. Be ready for it to be WAY off. If you’re in a mentoring position it’s a good game to teach how unreliable gossip is.

We also used to play a game that involved dropping a wooden clothes pin into a quart milk bottle that was placed between the feet. It sounds easier than it is .. but it’s doable.

There’s another called “musical chairs” … you don’t have to have chairs, but if you don’t you’ll have to have designated ‘spots’. Begin with one less spot or chair than players. Everyone walks around a circle that’s made up of the chairs/spots while music is played. When the music stops everyone scrambles for a chair/spot. Whoever doesn’t get a place is out of the game and another chair/spot is removed. This goes on until there is one chair and two people. Who ever is the last one sitting (or standing on a spot) is the winner.

I was going to write one more, but seems like the games we played just got sillier! It was fun thinking about them!

    Best of luck!
