I just got an assistant teacher position at a YMCA. I'll be working in the after school program. The classroom I'll be in will have 20 kids, ranging in age from 2nd graders to 5th graders. I love being able to give kids creative projects, I'm just having trouble planning activities that the younger kids won't be too challenged by but the older kids won't feel is babyish. Any ideas or even better any books I could purchase with activities in them? Thanks!

When I was in elementary school, I loved to play Around the World. My 4th grade math teacher would hold up a flashcard and then throw an inflatable ball to someone, they'd have to answer the flashcard. If they got it wrong-they were out (meaning they had to sit). If they got it right-they were cool and they could stay standing for round two. Then they'd throw the ball to the next person. It plays the same way until you break it down to the winner.
