How do I take everything off an old computer so that I can put my kids learning cds on them.?

January 6th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Kids and Learning

I have an old computer that I want to completly take everything off of it so that my kids learning cds are the only thing on them, that way if they hit a wrong button they will not destroy everything on my computer. Does anyone know how to do that?

You will need an operating system, so there is still opportiunity for mishap.

If a restore CD came with the computer,, run it and restore the computer to the state it was when it was new. You have nothing to lose then. If you have no such CD, check help, may you were supposed to burn them.

Do a complete re installation of windows. Pick full reformat. it will put only windows on it or any other prepackaged software the computer came with.

If you have a "brand name" computer, like Dell or HP, you should have a set of restore disks. If you boot from these, it will take everything off, and put your pc back to "as shipped". when it was new.

If you don't have that, simply go into the 'Control Panel' and remove all your programs.

I'd just do ad/remove programs, unless you absolutely know how to reformat and or restore.
