Kids and Party: Don’t Worry No Stress

February 27th, 2009 · No Comments · Kids and party

Organising a children party is great fun! “No Way!” How often have you dropped your kids off at a party, only to witness chaos as fast as the doorway is opened by a hassled mum whose eyes are begging you to take her away from all of this and put her out of her misery? In her house, 3 children are swinging from the light fittings, another pair are ripping up the carpet, possibly trying to discover a hidden entrance to the enchanting arena of Narnia, and the rest are extremely engrossed in a who-can-stuff-the-most-hamsters-into-your-mouth contest.

The sole reason that youngsters parties melt into tiny sessions of anarchy is boredom – and that, dear parent, is all down to you.

But, I did everything I could! Yes, you did : plenty of crisps, an enormous cake, and lots of balloons. The thing is, you broke the number 1 rule of youngsters parties.

The rule that you need to obey at any cost, unless you would like your house destroyed by a legion of small monsters NEVER, EVER PLAY MUSICAL CHAIRS!

Here is a secret : youngsters hate the game. Even if they once enjoyed it, they’ve played it at each birthday, Xmas and end of college party they’ve ever been to. And, you are the person that has to deal with a dozen or more bored youngsters careering round the perimeters of the room whilst 2 determined finalists battle is out for that last seat.

That leads me nicely to reign number 2 : NEVER PLAY ANY GAME THAT INVOLVE Youngsters BEING ‘OUT’ If you play games that keep all the children concerned from starting point to end point, you have their attention and when you have got their attention, they are not scratching their name into the varnish of your dining table.

GIVE EACH KID A NAME STICKER not merely will you remember who everyone seems to be, they also help quieter youngsters to smash the ice, and you can write everything from parent’s mobile telephone numbers to special diet needs on them, so avoiding unnecessary stress.

Some party poppers and re-lighting candles just don’t do it any more. A party theme gets the children excited from the instant they receive their invite, and gives you something to do on the important day as they begin to arrive.

Then, run the party in this order : GAMES FOOD PRESENTS It may appear wicked to the party kid, but always leave the opening of the gifts to the end of the party to keep away from gifts getting damaged or lost in the fun.

Follow those straightforward rules, and you’ll enjoy the party nearly as much as your children.
