tried the baking soda, but i want something to give a fresh scent…not just remove bad odors. I have tried everything you can buy in stores, but wanted ideas for homemade fresheners that are safe around kids and pets that get into everything. My house ISN'T stinky! I just want it to smell good!
Whenever I have a spare or old apple, pear, orange or lemon on hand I cut it up put it in a little pot…add a cinnamon stick (or powder) and/or some vanilla and water and put it on simmer on the stove…it makes the whole house smell yummy…like cookies are baking or something….Just don't forget about it or you will burn up the pan. You can also get essential oils in any walmart, kmart etc. and add them to some water on the stove and simmer. Same thing.

Try lemon or lime or orange peels simmering in a sauce pan with just a little water. You can look up on the web for natral potporris. They are good too and it all comes from stuff you can grow in your backyard!

I am also trying to avoid artificial, chemical fresheners, so I use lavender, pines, dill, orange or lemon peel. Quinces and apples are also strong fresheners and give the old romantic atmosphere to the house. Just put them on the commodes. Incenses are also good, but they use oxygen for burning so they don't freshen. Lilies and lilacs savor the whole room, but those are spring flowers and don't last long.
