I have a sloping yard with lots of strange weeds, moss, everything but actual grass. I was told to hydroseed first so when I kill the weeds I won't have a mud pit. But I have kids and dogs playing there too…I can keep them off for a while but…
I have looked into professional lawn care but…cha-ching…no thanks…I have time and want to do it myself…I know it won't be perfect with the abuse we give it…but something other than weeds would be good.

Plant grass seed, and then treat with a weed and feed in early spring, and mid summer. Then winterize in the fall.

We use a mix of seed at the airport that is made to be indestructible. Its a contractor/field seed mix. We have planes skid through it, tear it up and after a few weeks its back and green. I will try and find the name of the seed for you.

You could redo the whole entire yard by taking the weeds, moss and everthing else and put down sod. Also you will need to water it 45-60 minutes twice a week. The best times to water is between 3 am – 11 am.

spray the weeds to kill them, then roto-till the area, bring in top soil if needed, work the area to be planted, with large landscape rakes, to get the grade you want, plant grass seed and then water, keep people and pets off it for about 6 weeks, then keep up on the mowing, and watering, and give it some weed and feed, follow the weed and feed directions,…..

As depressing as it sounds until the kids are grown and the animals penned or chained you will never have a perfect lawn. Most of my girlfriends with kids don't.
